Reviews
This is a great afternoon stop for the kids. It is a little pricey but not too bad. Our kids loved the interactive area on the first floor. We ended up spending as much time there as the rest of the museum combined. The store has some nice little items as well.
Very informative and entertaining.
Not worth
It is okay. Friendly staff. Some hands on stuff. Too much money for what you get.
I went into the museum with my elementary school students, and the impressive life-sized Naumann elephant was truly amazing. The specimens excavated at Lake Nojiri are also easy to understand. Even adults can enjoy it.
On National Route 18 near the entrance, there is a life-sized Naumann elephant family with their babies, so it's a good place to take a commemorative photo. There are benches on the lawn of Lake Nojiri, so it's a good place to take a break.
Actual Naumann elephant fossils were on display, and I was surprised by the size of the restored model.
I also learned a lot about geological formations.
It's a small museum, so I think you can spend about 30 minutes there.
■2023/GW visit
Visited together with the Naumann Elephant and Child Statue. It's a small museum that takes about 30 minutes to see, but it's surprisingly fun. Admission fee is 500 yen for adults, but there is an admission discount coupon on the website, so if you show it, it will be 450 yen.
Naumann's elephants were much larger than I expected, and I thought it was amazing how people in the past hunted them.
The museum is designed to be fun even for children.
It can be used as educational material for adults as well, with very easy-to-understand explanations that anyone can enjoy.
I happened to be able to participate in an event where I could touch the bones of a real Asian elephant.
According to the staff, this is an event that only takes place a few times a year.
The photo is a certificate that proves that you touched it at that time. It seems like they have a lot of events going on throughout the year, so I think it's a facility that you can enjoy anytime you visit.
